Born and raised in Minnesota, Mr. LaFountaine graduated from
California Western School of Law and was admitted to the Hawaii State Bar
Association in 1976. He spent
two years each with the City and County of Honolulu and the County of Maui
Prosecutor's Office as a deputy prosecuting attorney handling numerous
criminal matters and trials.
In 1980, Mr. LaFountaine joined the law firm of Fujiyama, Duffy &
Fujiyama where he specialized in personal injury litigation primarily in
the area of insurance defense.
This area of work has continued with Matsumoto LaFountaine &
Chow in 1994 and The Pacific Law Group.
In 1989, Mr.
LaFountaine served as a seminar speaker on "How to Evaluate and Settle
Personal Injury Claims In Hawaii". In 1991 and 1995, he was a panelist in the Statewide
Training for Arbitrators, a joint program sponsored by the Hawaii State
Judiciary and the Pacific Law Institute. He was also counsel for the Pacific Claim Executives
Association at its 1999 spring meeting.
Mr. LaFountaine is an experienced trial attorney and mediator, and
has repeatedly served as an arbitrator for the Hawaii Court Annexed
Arbitration Program and as a privately retained arbitrator on no-fault,
uninsured motorist and underinsured motorist disputes.
